Expanding support for measurement technologies: Moveshelf's integration with Theia Markerless

At Moveshelf, we believe that different measurement technologies best serve different use cases, and that supporting all of them is essential for our users to enable a wide range of movement analysis workflows. This ensures that our customers can freely choose the measurement technology that best fit their needs. Additionally, they can rely with confidence on Moveshelf, to securely store, and easily access, and visualize their measurements, regardless of the specific systems they chose. That’s why we work closely together with all manufacturers, and we continuously improve our integration with them. Today we are excited to announce our latest advancements in our integration with Theia Markerless.

Improved support for Theia Markerless
An increasing amount of Moveshelf’s customers have been using markerless movement analysis technologies. Working in collaboration with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), we have improved our integration with Theia’s Markerless movement analysis technology. Next to synchronized videos, we have now developed a dedicated workflow to automatically import and process a full Theia markerless session. This feature includes automatic trial recognition, pairing of kinematic data and media and categorization in conditions. This ensures a smooth and efficient workflow from the lab to Moveshelf’s information system.

Another improvement we’ve made in our extended integration with Theia is the overlay of the 3D avatar on each video, which perfectly aligns with the subject. This feature was essential for AUAS, as it allows their students to better understand the biomechanics of human movement or to identify gait deviations more easily. To achieve this, we applied Theia’s camera calibration files to the accompanying videos and used this transformation in Moveshelf’s 3D viewer to achieve a perfect overlap between the estimated model and the video from each camera. AUAS has already incorporated the Theia integration into their mobile movement analysis lab and in large-scale education, highlighting the impact of markerless motion capture in practice.

By collaborating closely with both industry partners and customers, we’re not only improving Moveshelf but also extending our support for or all movement analysis technologies.
