We are excited to share that Moveshelf is participating in the Eurostars project KOACH. With a total budget of €1.6 million, this three-year project started in 2026 and brings together five partners to advance the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. This project has received funding from the Eureka Eurostars program, part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs, co-funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe and RVO.
In Europe, approximately 60 million people are affected by knee osteoarthritis (KOA), which makes it the leading cause of chronic pain and physical disability in adults over age 40. It significantly affects people's quality of life and becomes an (economic) burden on the healthcare system when not treated properly. Studies have shown that non-surgical treatments can delay disease progression and improve function and quality of life if people use the right tools and adhere to a suitable treatment. However, such tools and treatment protocols do not yet exist.
In this project, the consortium aims to design, develop and validate an innovative and easy-to-use system suitable for people with KOA. The solution combines Moveshelf Everyday, a mobile application for home monitoring and rehabilitation, with a smart wearable ankle sleeve. The ankle sleeve functions both as a measurement device and as a training device, providing real-time haptic feedback to support patients during their exercises. KOACH builds on work from the recently completed WalkWell project.
Data collected through the ankle sleeve, together with questionnaires and periodic assessments completed in Moveshelf Everyday, is made available to clinicians through the Moveshelf Information System. Together, these tools aim to enable more personalized, effective, and accessible care for people with knee osteoarthritis.
