Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Adopts Moveshelf at the Motion and Sports Analysis Lab to Improve Pediatric Care

Exciting news from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and Moveshelf! After a successful implementation project, CHLA is now using Moveshelf every day as part of their clinical gait analysis workflow.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the John C. Wilson Jr. Motion and Sports Analysis Lab

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, founded in 1901, is one of the USA’s leading children’s hospitals. Since 2010, CHLA has consistently been part of the Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals and again made the honor list for 2025-2026. Doctors at CHLA, especially those at the Jackie and Gene Autry Orthopedic Center, rely on information from the John C. Wilson Jr. Motion and Sports Analysis Lab. Specialists at the motion lab have been helping children with orthopedic and neuromuscular problems since 1992. Currently the motion analysis lab helps 400 children every year. Around 300 children come for a gait analysis, to determine their best treatment, such as neurosurgical procedures. Another 100 children come for a sports assessment to help determine whether they should resume playing sports after an injury, and for advice on how to prevent reinjury. The lab also supports the wider community by sharing what they learn, like in the recently published article Walk This Way: 5 Lessons Learned From a Pediatric Gait Lab.

Successful implementation for gait analysis

After a great collaboration between Moveshelf and CHLA’s motion lab and IT departments, the motion lab at CHLA started using Moveshelf for every clinical gait analysis since August 2025. This means that every gait analysis performed since then now benefits from a streamlined, modern workflow. By adopting Moveshelf, CHLA has gained:

  • The comfort of knowing that measurements are centralized and backed up in one secure cloud
  • The ability to access measurements wherever CHLA staff works
  • Easy summaries and reports
  • Enterprise-grade IT integration for single sign-on
  • The assurance that protected health information is stored in a certified, secure and compliant system

At Moveshelf, we’re very happy that CHLA has placed their trust in us, and that we can help them focus their invaluable time and expertise on what matters the most: their patients.

In their own words

Alison Hanson, MSPT, OCS, Manager of the John C. Wilson Jr. Motion and Sports Analysis Lab at CHLA, shared her experience:

Using Moveshelf for our gait workflow is just part of our daily routine now. Our physical therapists and engineers use Moveshelf every day, and the interface is very easy to use for our staff. We’re very happy that we no longer have to dedicate precious staff time to supporting an in-house system, and that Moveshelf handles that complexity for us. This lets us focus on motion analysis and the best result for our patients.

What’s next?

We’re already working on the next step: supporting CHLA’s motion lab with the sports assessment that they provide to their patients. The protocol that Moveshelf is supporting CHLA with was created by the Motion Analysis Research Interest Group as part of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM). We’re exciting about continuing to work together with CHLA and to have CHLA complete the adoption of our leading infrastructure for movement analysis.
